What camera gear rental costs in Bali

The straight price answer for 2026: day rates by category, what each rental includes, the deposit, and how villa delivery in Ubud works.

That's the reason you're looking at renting: standing on a Bali beach at golden hour with a real camera in your hands, not fishing your phone out of a wet pocket. The gear that gets that shot is expensive to own, worse to fly across the world, and painful to drop in salt water. So most people rent it once they land. The only thing that stalls them is the price, because almost nobody in Bali puts a plain number on a page. Here's what it actually costs in 2026, category by category, with what you get for it and what to check before you hand anyone a deposit.

Rent, buy, or bring your own?

Rent, for almost everyone on a trip. Buying a full-frame body and a couple of lenses for one holiday makes no sense, and hauling your own kit means excess baggage, insurance worry, and a real chance of sand, spray or a scooter spill wrecking something you paid full price for. A rental is a fixed, small cost for the days you actually shoot, and if a wave takes the housing, it's a deposit conversation, not a two thousand dollar one.

Skip renting if you already own a kit you trust and you're only here a few days. If your own camera and your own lens live in your bag anyway, bring them. Rent the pieces you don't own: the drone you've never justified buying, the 360 camera for the scooter ride, the waterproof action cam for the waterfall, the wireless mics for the one interview. That's where a rental earns its keep, and it's cheaper than you think.

What camera gear rental costs in Bali right now

Prices below are per day, in rupiah, quoted from each shop's own page when we checked on 28 September 2026. They move, and they differ from one shop to the next, so treat them as the shape of the market rather than a fixed menu.

Action and 360 cameras are the cheapest way in. An Insta360 in the X-series runs from about Rp 150.000 a day for an older X2 up to Rp 250.000 for the current X5, battery, stick and charger included. A dive-ready GoPro from a dive shop sits higher, around Rp 500.000 a day, because it comes built for the water. For most people the 360 cam is the better rent: it survives the scooter and the spray, and you pick the framing afterwards.

Pocket gimbal cameras sit in the middle. A DJI Osmo Pocket 4P, the little stabilised camera most vloggers reach for, is around Rp 325.000 a day. That's the sweet spot for walking-and-talking, cafes and market days, and it's the one piece we'd tell a first-time creator to start with.

Full-frame mirrorless is the step up. A Sony A7C II is listed around Rp 400.000 a day, an A7S III around Rp 650.000, and a Canon R5 body about Rp 750.000. Add a lens on top of the body at most shops. This is the tier for anything that has to look properly cinematic, and it's where reading the fine print matters most, because a "camera rental" can mean a body with no lens, no spare battery and no card.

Drones are the priciest line. A DJI Air 3 is listed at Rp 600.000 to 700.000 a day, and a bigger DJI Mavic 3 Pro around Rp 1.900.000. A sub-250g travel drone like the DJI Mini costs less to rent and carries lighter rules in the air. Audio and light are cheap add-ons. A pair of wireless mics like the Rode Wireless GO II is about Rp 100.000 a day, and a soft LED light such as an Amaran 60x around Rp 250.000. These are the two things that turn a nice-looking clip into one that actually sounds and looks finished, and they cost less than a nice dinner.

The day rate isn't the whole price

Three things move the real number, and none of them show up next to the day rate.

The deposit. A refundable cash or card deposit and a photo of your ID is normal and fine. What isn't normal, though it's common here, is a shop holding your passport for the entire rental. One well-known Kuta production renter states plainly that they take your travel passport as the deposit while you have the gear. We don't. Your passport stays with you; we take a refundable deposit that scales with the value of what you're borrowing, and we confirm the exact figure on WhatsApp before anything is booked.

Where the gear is, and where it has to travel. Most fleets sit in Kuta, Canggu or Denpasar. Ubud is a long drive from all of them, so you're either collecting in person or paying a delivery surcharge, when delivery is offered at all. What's actually in the bag. The headline price is often just the body. Check that a card, a reader, a charger and a spare battery are included, and check the model year, because plenty of marketplace listings still rent cameras that are several generations old. The other lever is time. Day rates drop on multi-day and weekly rentals, so if you're shooting across a week, ask for the three-day or weekly price rather than paying seven single days.

The cheapest way home with real footage

If the budget is tight and the days are active, this is the rent. An action camera shrugs off the waterfall spray and the scooter ride, and a 360 camera on a stick films the whole scene so you choose the angle later. You're wading, riding and sweating, so you want gear that doesn't care. Ours are built for exactly the days that ruin a phone.

Talk to camera all day: the vlog kit

For walking tours, cafes and daily stories, you don't need a big camera. A pocket gimbal keeps the shot steady while you move, and a set of clip-on wireless mics means people can actually hear you over the traffic and the wind. This is the setup most travel creators regret not renting sooner.

• Start with the mic on. Bad audio kills a good clip faster than bad video. Clip the transmitter on, check the level once, forget it.
• Shoot a touch wide. Room to crop and stabilise later beats a framing you can't fix.

For the video that has to look right

If it's a brand film, a YouTube episode or an interview, this is where full-frame earns the extra rupiah. A body like the Sony A7 IV with a fast 24-70mm handles low light, soft backgrounds and clean skin tones that a phone or an action cam can't touch. Add the mics and one soft light and you're at a professional standard for a fraction of buying it.

Settings are yours to taste, but two starting points: shoot in a flat or log profile if you'll grade it, and keep your shutter around double your frame rate for natural motion.
